The acquittal is an important step in the Sporting Schools process. It helps the Australian Sports Commission understand how your grant funds were spent and the key statistics on your student's program activity.
Important points
Our system communications and on-screen prompts will help you through your acquittal process...but here are some key points every school should know:
- All schools that received a grant payment are required to complete the acquittal process, even if no actual program delivery occurred/no funds were spent
- The acquittal must be made within defined term period, appropriate to term you received your grant payment
- GST (on expenses) is included in your acquittal. Make sure you enter the amount including GST
- An expenditure cap exists for equipment, this excludes the cost of freight

How the acquittal fits in the Sporting Schools process
The Sporting Schools steps are shown in the diagram award (from the point your school has been successful in your grant application).
- Your school has been successful in its grant application for the term. You will receive a confirmation email and a prompt to make a sport booking
- You make a booking with one or more sports on the Sporting Schools booking portal. Normally, the sport will be in contact with you to arrange logistics and a budget. You may also purchase equipment, book travel or any other peripheral costs
- The booking is confirmed by the sport
- When the first booking for the term is confirmed you will be paid your grant amount (contingent on the shared service model of your state or territory)
- You run the sport(s) programs with your students
- The Sporting Schools system will send you an email requesting you complete an acquittal. You enter the system and complete the acquittal, this will normally include:
- if you completed a program or not
- counts of students involved
- the sport(s) you booked and how you spent your grant funds
- if asked, invoice evidence upload of what you spent
- Your acquittal will be evaluated by the Sporting Schools team and you will be contacted when the evaluation is completed
- Any school that has as balance grant amount remaining, after deducting program approved expenses, may be invoiced and ask to return grant funds. Return funds are referred to as 'residual funds'
