Following the success of the program for primary schools, Sporting Schools developed a targeted program for secondary school students in Years 7 and 8.
The targeted program focuses on Years 7 and 8, particularly girls and inactive students, in order to address the barriers that prevent teenagers from participating in sport. It also aims to provide greater access to tailored resources and support where it is needed most.
Secondary schools can apply for funding each term to deliver high quality sport programs before, during, and after school hours using one of our national sporting organisation (NSO) partners. The selection of secondary schools is based on meeting the program goals and program parameters in the grant application, because there are limited places.
In order to help sports develop their approach for secondary schools, the Australian Sports Commission undertook the Youth Participation Project in 2016 to look at the most successful strategies for engaging youth through sport.
